This year has gotten off to a great start in the GHS Art Studio. Our Year 7 students have demonstrated a high degree of creativity, adopting Pop Art techniques inspired by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to create original artworks. So far, they have completed an Andy Warhol-style piece and are now learning how to use Ben Day dots before moving on to stencilling and screen printing.
The Year 8 students have begun finishing their Mandala artworks. Next, they will write reflections on the process before exploring other styles, including abstract and surrealist techniques. They have shown great use of geometry and spatial reasoning skills to create effective mandalas that showcase radial symmetry.
Year 9 students have been working on landscape artwork techniques, including perspective drawing. They are now completing their final pieces before moving on to their next topic, which will incorporate printmaking alongside their perspective skills.
The Year 10 students are completing a unit on human proportion and portraiture techniques. As part of their visual study, they have practiced a variety of techniques to refine their understanding of human anatomy and facial structure in art.
Our Year 11 and 12 class have also shown their creative strengths. We have a large group this year, with students selecting a diverse range of mediums for their Practical Skills Folio and Visual Studies so far. This has included photography, video editing, 3D digital design, videography, oil painting, drawing, and learning wheel-throwing techniques with clay. It has been exciting to see their enthusiasm and emerging talent.
I am looking forward to seeing all students continue to grow in their artistic abilities and explore new creative challenges throughout the year.
